Ingredients Needed for the Best Blueberry Muffins

dairy-free blueberry muffins in a muffin tin
    • Whole Wheat Flour: Whole wheat flour brings a rich, nutty flavor and a boost of fiber to these muffins, making them more filling and adding a wholesome texture. It also gives a slightly heartier feel than white flour, perfect for a cozy, satisfying muffin.
    • White Sugar: A touch of white sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness to balance the tart blueberries. It helps the muffins stay soft and light without overpowering the natural flavors.
    • Eggs: Eggs give structure and fluffiness to the muffins, binding all the ingredients together. They also add a bit of protein, helping keep these muffins hearty and satisfying.
    • Almond Milk: Almond milk keeps these muffins dairy-free and brings a subtle nutty undertone that complements the whole wheat and blueberries. It’s a lighter option that keeps the muffins soft and moist without adding dairy.
    • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: Extra-virgin olive oil is a heart-healthy fat that gives the muffins a tender texture and slight richness. Its fruity undertones enhance the natural sweetness of the blueberries.
    • Vanilla Extract: Vanilla adds a warm, sweet aroma that rounds out the flavors and gives the muffins that classic bakery taste. It pairs beautifully with blueberries for a hint of warmth in every bite.
    • Fresh Blueberries: Fresh blueberries are the star of this recipe, adding bursts of juicy sweetness. They bring natural color, antioxidants, and flavor that make each muffin feel like a treat!

Prep the oven: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix the dry ingredients:  Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.

Add the wet ingredients: Add the eggs, almond milk, olive oil, and vanilla. Mix.

Add blueberries: Add the blueberries to the mixture and gently stir to combine.

Prep the muffin pan: Line the muffin pans with paper liners.

Pour the muffin batter: Using a ladle, pour the batter into the muffin-lined pan.

Bake muffins: Bake the muffins for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of a muffin comes out clean.Let muffins cool: Remove the muffins from the oven and let them sit for a few minutes or place them on a cooling rack. Enjoy!

Hint: If you use frozen blueberries in this recipe, toss them with a tablespoon of flour before adding them to the batter. This helps prevent them from sinking to the bottom of the muffins and reduces color bleed.

    Storage

To keep your muffins fresh and delicious after baking, here are a few storage tips:

Room Temperature (for up to 2 days): Place the muffins in an airtight container lined with a paper towel to absorb any excess moisture. Cover the top with another paper towel to prevent sogginess, then seal the container. Store at room temperature for up to 2 days.

Refrigerator (for 3-5 days): If you need them to last a bit longer, you can refrigerate the muffins. Use an airtight container to keep them fresh, but let them come to room temperature or warm them up a bit before eating to bring back their soft texture.

Freezing (for up to 3 months): To freeze, let the muffins cool completely, then wrap each in plastic wrap or foil to keep them from drying out. Place the wrapped muffins in a freezer-safe bag or container. To enjoy, just thaw at room temperature or heat in the microwave for about 20–30 seconds for a fresh-from-the-oven feel!

    Top tip

Don’t Overmix the Batter: Stir just until the dry and wet ingredients are combined. Overmixing can make the muffins dense and tough instead of light and fluffy.

    FAQ

What can you use to make muffins instead of milk?

You can replace milk with various dairy-free options like almond milk, oat milk, soy milk, or coconut milk. These alternatives keep muffins moist and add a subtle flavor, depending on the milk you choose. Water or juice can also work in a pinch, though they may slightly alter the texture.

Do Starbucks blueberry muffins have dairy?

Yes, Starbucks blueberry muffins typically contain dairy, as they’re often made with ingredients like milk or butter. However, ingredient lists can vary by location, so you can always ask for specifics in-store or check the Starbucks website for current nutrition information.

Do muffins have milk in them?
