Happy Halloween weekend everyone! What is everyone doing? Getting ready for Halloween parties or maybe looking for a festive treat to make? Look no further, I have some spooky banana ghosts you can make for healthy fruit Halloween snacks. This would be perfect for a Halloween party, especially school parties!
There are plenty of sweets out there during the Halloween holiday, but many of them have a bunch of added sugar. Added sugar is a nutrient that we want to try and limit and have on occasion. These Spooky Boo-nana Popsicles are the perfect afternoon snack this time of year and are nutrient-dense! It is a great way to sneak in some extra fruit and also a great activity for your kids to get involved with! My 2.5-year-old could not stop talking about how we made them together and he has been asking for this spooky treat every day after daycare!
JP used our Busy Baby Mat while he helped me make the ghosts. It was a great way for him to stay entertained while he was in between tasks. He often climbs up on the counter if he gets bored during a recipe so this saved me a lot of hassle! It also made clean up a lot easier because we made the mess on the mat and when we were done we could just throw it in the dishwasher. Easy peasy.

What You’ll Need:
Ingredients
- Fresh Bananas - I like to use bananas that are not very ripe. Ripe bananas sometimes split a lot easier when putting the popsicle stick in.
- Greek Vanilla Yogurt - Personally, I pick whole milk Greek yogurt because younger kiddos need the fat in their diet! You can definitely do a lower fat Greek yogurt if you would like.
- Dark Chocolate Chips - Mini chocolate chips look better on the ghosts but you can also use regular sized. Popsicle Sticks - These are sometimes hard to find at grocery stores. I got mine from Target or you can order some on Amazon!
Kitchen Items
- Parchment Paper
- Baking Sheet
- Butter Knife
- Small to Medium Bowl
- Freezer

How to Make Spooky Boo-nana Popsicles:

Variations/Substitutes
You could also melt some peanut butter and drizzle over the bananas to create a mummy effect! This would be a fun way to add some additional protein.
Use melted white chocolate to coat the banana instead of Greek yogurt.
You could add a splash of lemon juice to the Greek yogurt to give it a little bit of a tangy flavor!
Instead of chocolate chips try using sunflower seeds for the eyes and mouth.
Use candy eyeballs for the eyes.
FAQ
You could melt white chocolate and have that be the coating or you could omit the coating and just place the chocolate chips on the banana.
You don’t have to but it definitely helps with the Greek yogurt staying on and the banana from falling off the popsicle! If you don’t freeze between each step it will go faster.
I would recommend eating them in about a week if you just have them lying on the baking sheet in the freezer. To have them last longer, place them in a freezer ziploc bag after you have gone through the freezing process.
Using fresh fruit is an easy way to provide healthy snacks to your kids and yourself! I would love to see photos if you make these Spooky Boo-nana Popsicles this Halloween season! You can share on Instagram and be sure to tag me.
