Don’t have an espresso machine? No worries! I don’t either. This cappuccino coffee recipe is machine-free and super easy! I love this easy cappuccino recipe because it is truly easy and sneaks in some extra protein with the vanilla protein powder - I am always looking for ways to increase my nutrition in easy ways as a mama and Dietitian!

    Ingredients

Double-Strength Coffee: Brewed nice and bold to give this cappuccino a strong, rich flavor without the need for extra sweeteners or cream. By making it double-strength, you get that deep coffee taste that's the perfect base for a cozy, energizing drink.

Skim Milk: Light and creamy, skim milk adds a smooth texture without added fat. It froths up beautifully for that classic cappuccino foam, keeping things light yet still satisfying.

Vanilla Protein Powder: A delicious way to boost the protein content while adding a hint of sweetness. The vanilla flavor adds a subtle warmth that pairs perfectly with coffee, making this cappuccino a filling treat you can enjoy any time of day.

Cinnamon: This touch of spice brings warmth and aroma, balancing the coffee's natural bitterness. Plus, it gives the drink a cozy vibe, making it feel like a little fall-inspired pick-me-up in a mug.

See the recipe card for quantities.

How to Make Cappuccino Coffee Recipe

Pour the coffee: Pour your strong coffee into a coffee mug.

Make creamy milk foam: In a separate cup, add the skim milk, and use a handheld frother until the milk becomes foamy and frothy.

Add the protein powder: Add the vanilla protein and cinnamon to the frothed milk and mix with the handhled frother. Combine the coffee and protein milk: Add the protein milk mixture to the coffee.

Hint: For a great homemade cappuccino with a handheld frother, heat the milk until it's warm (but not boiling) before frothing. Then, angle the frother below the surface and move it up and down for 20-30 seconds to create a thick, airy foam.

    Variations

Use your favorite milk - I chose skim milk for a low fat option but do your favorite cow’s milk or plant-based milk

Change up the spices - instead of cinnamon, try nutmeg, cardamom, or pumpkin pie spice!

    Substitutions

    Gluten-Free

No changes needed, just double check your protein powder is gluten-free (it most likely is).

    Dairy-Free

Use a plant-based milk (soy milk, coconut milk, rice milk, or almond milk) and a dairy-free protein powder.

    Vegetarian/Vegan

Use a plant-based milk (soy milk, coconut milk, rice milk, or almond milk) and a vegan protein powder.

    Cappuccino Nutrition

Adding protein to coffee can give it a little extra nutritional boost, especially if you’re having it with breakfast or a mid-morning. Here are a few reasons why I like to add protein to coffee:

    1. Keeps You Fuller Longer: Protein takes longer to digest, so adding it to your coffee can help keep hunger at bay. This can be helpful if you're having coffee first thing or in between meals and want a little more staying power.
    2. Balanced Energy: While coffee alone gives you a quick caffeine boost, protein helps slow down digestion, so you may feel a more steady, prolonged energy. The combination can help you avoid the "caffeine crash" that sometimes happens after drinking coffee on an empty stomach.
    3. Muscle Support: For those who are active, adding protein to coffee can provide extra support for muscle repair and recovery, especially if it's enjoyed as a post-workout drink.

Overall, protein coffee can be an easy way to add a little extra nutrition without disrupting your coffee routine!

    Top tip

Choose a protein powder that you really enjoy so that it makes your coffee even more enjoyable!

    FAQ

Can you put protein powder in a cappuccino?

Absolutely! That is why I love this recipe, extra protein in a drink I would already be drinking!

Is a cappuccino high in protein?

In a normal cappuccino, you are using about ½ cup of milk so that is about 4 grams of protein. Adding protein powder to your milk and frothing boosts the protein content!

How do you make a protein cappuccino?

You have come to the right place! That is exactly what this recipe is, a protein cappuccino! See the instructions above to make the perfect cup of protein cappuccino!

How much milk do you add to a cappuccino?

In this recipe, I use about ½ cup of milk per cup of coffee.
