Ingredients
- Raw chicken wings - I try to find chicken wings that have already been split into wings and flats so it is less handling of raw chicken
- Greek yogurt
- Lemon juice - you could also use lime juice
- Ginger - I prefer grating fresh ginger but you could also use ginger paste to make it easier
- Garlic - Again, I prefer fresh garlic cloves but you could replace it with minced garlic in a jar
- Flour
- Salt
- Turmeric powder
- Garam masala

- Red chili powder
- Paprika - smoked or regular
- Cilantro - fresh for garnishing

Prepare chicken wings: Remove the wing tip of the chicken wings and split them at the joint. Pat dry with paper towels and trim off excess loose fat with kitchen shears or a sharp knife.
Combine ingredients for the yogurt marinade: In a large bowl, combine yogurt, ginger paste, minced garlic, lemon juice, flour, salt, turmeric, garam masala, cumin, chili powder, and paprika. Mix well.
Add wings: Add the wings and toss until well-coated. Let it marinate in the fridge for up to 4 hours.

Air fry: Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees. Place the chicken wings in a single layer and cook for 22-25 minutes. Shake the basket a few times in between.
Garnish: Garnish with the chopped cilantro before serving. Enjoy!
Hint: Depending on your air fryer, you may want to increase the temperature to 400 degrees and bake for an additional 2 minutes to get the wings nice and crispy. Mine were crispy after cooking for 22 minutes at 375 degrees.
Substitutions/Variations
Gluten-free - use almond flour instead of wheat flour
Lime juice - you can use lime juice if you do not have lemon juice
Ground coriander - for a more authentic tandoori flavor, replace the cumin with ground coriander
Plain yogurt - if you do not have Greek yogurt, you can use plain yogurt.
Nutrition
Wings are a lean protein source.
Typically wings are fried or coated in a sauce that may be high in sodium, fat, and/or sugar.
What I love about these tandoori wings is that they are actually pretty healthy for you! The sauce is homemade and does not include added sodium or added sugar.
Equipment
My favorite air fryer - it has double baskets which is great for when you are making something in large amounts OR when you are making two separate items. I love air fryers because they reduce the cook time by a lot!
Storage
Store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
When letting the tandoori marinade do its magic, place it in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours. Cover with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container.
Top tip
Place the chicken pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. This will help get crispy skin!
FAQ
Tandoori tastes very flavorful from the blend of spices. It has a little spice but more of a smoky flavor. The typical tandoori seasoning includes cumin, coriander, garam masala, and turmeric.
Nope! I actually got all of mine at Target!
Yes! You could place the wings on a wire rack on top of a baking sheet and cook in the oven, for best results. Here is an excellent recipe for oven-baked wings.
